Profile

Graphic Designer Needed for Magic: the Gathering Website
I need your help to create sexy, eye-catching designs for a part of the web that badly needs it. Your designs will be a feast for sore eyes in the MTG world!
You’ll be joining and collaborating with our team of writers, data scientists, and marketers (me!)
Skills and expertise:
* Familiarity with Magic: the Gathering, or at least online gaming and esports. And work experience in this area
* Experience making infographics
* Ideally, comfort/experience with data visualization
Core responsibilities:
* Create various assets for use in the website and social media:
* Infographics - we have lots of data and are looking for great ways to show it off
* Supporting graphics for articles on our blog
* Ads - external and on site
* Graphic templates, like for blog feature images
* Social media graphics
* Work closely with the site owner and editor to make graphics to support web and social media content
* Follow brand guidelines and potentially identify areas for improvement
Potential additional responsibilities (depending on your availability and skillset):
* Merge some conflicting brand design standards that we have on different platforms
* Stretch goal - if you have UI/UX design experience we may have additional work for you
You must be:
* Able to act independently using your own good judgement, when required
* Have a flexible schedule and be able to work on a short timeline -- some data visualizations may need a 24 hour turnaround, for example
* Have a strong attention to detail
Software you’ll use:
* Google Docs
* Google Drive / Dropbox
* Slack
* Figma
If I decide to move forward with your application, I will hire you for a quick (paid) test project. If that goes well and we like working together, then I’ll bring you on for an ongoing basis.
Please answer the following questions or I will not consider your application:
1. Let me know what your favorite ways to play Magic are and how long you’ve been playing. If no MTG experience, please tell me about the games you play/are familiar with.
2. Have you ever worked on an ongoing basis for a website before? Worked with an editor or content manager? If so, please describe.
3. Are you able to create graphics on an ongoing basis, ad-hoc/part time for at least the next 6 months?
4. Have you used Figma before? In what context?
5. What is your favorite (info)graphic you’ve ever made? Link me to it.
