Job Overview

A law firm seeks an experienced Workers' Compensation Lateral Partner Attorney to join its team in Alexandria, VA. This role involves managing a portable book of business and handling complex defense matters within a nationally recognized civil litigation practice.

Duties

• Assess new files to establish action plans, budgets, and strategic recommendations for defense matters.



• Identify pleading requirements and delegate tasks effectively to paralegals and legal assistants.



• Prepare discovery responses, manage document production, and attend depositions, hearings, and other discovery events.



• Negotiate settlements, secure authority, and prepare for trial as necessary while providing thorough reports.



• Maintain regular communication with support staff and ensure efficient case management.

Requirements

• Must be licensed to practice law in Virginia and DC; Maryland licensure is preferred.



• 5-7 years of practice experience in workers' compensation defense is required.



• Must possess a portable book of business.



• Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.



• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the initiative to multitask effectively.

Education

• Juris Doctorate or better.

Certifications

• Active Bar membership in required jurisdictions.

• Ability to assess new files and establish comprehensive action plans.



• Strong negotiation and settlement authority skills.



• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for client and internal reporting.
