A law firm seeks a Senior Litigation Counsel to join its Smithtown, NY office. This role offers experienced attorneys meaningful case ownership, collaborative strategy, and the opportunity to exercise serious legal judgment. The firm handles complex commercial, employment, and real estate disputes, providing a platform for attorneys to drive litigation matters while leveraging a robust support infrastructure.

Duties

• Independently drive litigation matters, including directing associates, paralegals, and operational support to ensure efficient case progression.



• Evaluate case leverage, procedural posture, and legal risk to develop strategic roadmaps for resolution or escalation.



• Lead motion practice, discovery, and deposition strategies, ensuring high-quality legal writing and tactical execution.



• Manage client relationships by advising on litigation risk, explaining procedural developments, and balancing legal strategy with business realities.



• Collaborate with senior counsel and partners on major strategic decisions, challenging assumptions to improve case positioning.



• Utilize modern legal technology and AI-assisted workflows to enhance efficiency, document analysis, and knowledge retrieval.

Requirements

• Active admission to the New York State Bar.



• Minimum of 8 years of litigation experience with a strong background in motion practice and depositions.



• Proven ability to independently manage active litigation matters and direct the work of support teams.



• Excellent legal writing skills and strong procedural judgment.



• Commitment to full-time, in-office work in Smithtown, NY.

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Admission to the New York State Bar is required.



• Admission to SDNY, EDNY, New Jersey, or Connecticut Bar is strongly preferred.

Skills

• Experience with commercial litigation, employment matters, discrimination claims, and business ownership conflicts.



• Background in arbitration, appellate litigation, and regulatory defense is desired.



• Ability to leverage secure legal technology infrastructure and cloud-based litigation systems.



• Strong team leadership skills with the ability to delegate intelligently and provide constructive feedback.
