Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Principal Regulatory Attorney with at least seven years of experience in FDA compliance to join its Consumer Brands practice in New York City. This role involves advising clients in the food, beverage, supplement, and cosmetics sectors on regulatory matters, while also supporting sophisticated financing, M&A, and investment transactions. The position offers the opportunity to lead and grow the firm's regulatory capabilities within a multidisciplinary team.

Duties

• Advise clients on FDA regulatory compliance, including labeling, packaging, advertising claims, and ingredient safety for consumer products.



• Manage inspections, enforcement actions, recalls, and emerging federal and state regulatory developments affecting the consumer brands industry.



• Lead the regulatory due diligence and risk management aspects of complex financing, investment, and M&A transactions.



• Negotiate and advise on commercial agreements, including manufacturing, co-packing, supply, distribution, and logistics contracts.



• Collaborate with investors, lenders, and operating companies to identify and mitigate regulatory risks throughout the business lifecycle.

Requirements

• At least seven years of significant experience advising clients on FDA regulatory compliance matters.



• Substantial experience involving food, beverage, dietary supplements, cosmetics, or other consumer products.



• Experience advising clients on USDA regulatory compliance matters.



• Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, with the ability to become admitted in the office jurisdiction as required.



• A portable book of business and a demonstrated interest in developing and growing client relationships.

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active license to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction.

Skills

• Experience with CPSC, FTC, and related federal or state regulatory matters is desired.



• Experience negotiating or advising on commercial agreements in the consumer brands or consumer products industries is desired.



• Experience advising on regulatory issues arising in M&A, financing, and investment transactions is desired.



• Experience with intellectual property protection, licensing, and other brand-related matters is preferred.



• Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills with sound business judgment.



• Ability to work collaboratively across practices and offices as well as independently.



• Sound business judgment and a practical, client-focused approach to regulatory counseling.
