A law firm in Millersville, MD, is seeking a highly qualified Patent Attorney to join their team. The ideal candidate will be a USPTO registered patent attorney with experience in patent prosecution. The position requires registration with the United States Patent Office Bar and prefers admission to the Maryland Bar. Previous experience with USPTO patent prosecution is essential, and some litigation experience is preferred. The role involves handling patent applications, providing legal advice on intellectual property issues, and supporting clients through the patent process.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Prepare and prosecute patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations.
• Draft and file patent applications, including preparing detailed patent specifications, claims, and drawings.
• Conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses, providing strategic advice to clients regarding patent portfolio management.
• Manage correspondence with the USPTO, including responding to office actions, rejections, and other communications.
• Advise clients on intellectual property matters, including patent strategy, infringement issues, and patent enforcement.
• Collaborate with inventors, engineers, and other professionals to gather technical information and draft accurate patent applications.
• Provide support in patent-related litigation, including assisting with discovery, preparing expert reports, and presenting evidence.
• Stay updated on changes in patent laws, regulations, and industry trends to provide informed legal advice.
• Maintain detailed records of patent filings, correspondence, and case status.

Requirements:

• USPTO registered patent attorney with a current registration with the United States Patent Office Bar.
• Admission to the Maryland Bar is preferred but not required.
• Previous experience with USPTO patent prosecution is required.
• Some experience in patent litigation is preferred.
• Strong understanding of patent laws and regulations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
• Admission to the Maryland Bar (preferred).

Skills:

• Expertise in patent prosecution, including preparation and filing of patent applications.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
