Job Overview
A law firm seeks an Associate to join its Consumer Financial Services Regulatory Compliance Practice Group in Albany, NY. This role provides the opportunity to advise depository institutions, mortgage lenders, auto finance companies, Fintechs, and other market participants on complex state and federal regulatory compliance matters, product launches, and risk management in rapidly evolving industries.
Duties
- Advise financial services providers on state and federal regulatory compliance, including origination, underwriting, licensing, documentation, servicing, privacy, and collection.
- Support clients in preparing for and responding to state and federal examinations, investigations, regulatory inquiries, and enforcement actions.
- Analyze and advise on compliance with key consumer financial laws, including TILA, FDCPA, FCRA, RESPA, SCRA, MLA, and analogous state consumer protection statutes.
- Assist in the development and review of financial products, programs, disclosures, policies, and procedures, while advising on corporate structuring and business expansion.
- Conduct multi-state legal research and prepare memoranda, client alerts, and other substantive work product.
Requirements
- 2-5 years of experience in financial services compliance or a related practice area.
- Familiarity with state and federal consumer financial services laws and regulatory frameworks governing origination, servicing, collection, and licensing.
- Experience advising financial institutions, Fintech companies, specialty lenders, or other regulated providers is preferred.
- Admission to practice in the jurisdiction where the candidate will reside and work, or eligibility to become admitted promptly upon hire.
Education
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
Certifications
- Active bar admission in the relevant jurisdiction.
Skills
- Excellent legal research, analytical, drafting, and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced environment.
