Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Defense Litigation Associate Attorney specializing in Mass Torts (Asbestos) to join its growing practice in Syracuse, NY. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with experienced attorneys across multiple offices, engage in high-level litigation strategy, and take on meaningful responsibility representing defendants in state and federal courts nationwide. The position involves managing complex toxic tort matters in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Duties

• Take and defend depositions of plaintiffs and fact witnesses, and represent clients at courtroom appearances, including oral argument of motions and discovery conferences.



• Research legal, procedural, and scientific issues, and collaborate with senior attorneys on strategy for sophisticated, high-stakes litigation.



• Draft responsive pleadings, memoranda, briefs, and significant motions, including motions for summary judgment and discovery motions.



• Prepare reports to clients, including deposition reports, litigation status reports, and case analysis reports.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2+ years of asbestos defense litigation experience is required.



• Admission to the New York AND New Jersey bars is required.



• Engagement in sophisticated, high-stakes litigation on behalf of long-standing clients.

Education

• Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active bar admission in New York and New Jersey.

Skills

• Excellent research, writing, and verbal communication skills.



• Familiarity with Zoom, MS Teams, and other video platforms for depositions, court conferences, and hearings.



• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.



• Demonstrated ability to rapidly absorb and analyze new information.



• High level of professionalism, conscientiousness, and responsibility.



• Positive, flexible, and cooperative attitude; military experience is welcome.
