Director, Research Security and Export Compliance
The candidate will be responsible for developing, managing and coordinating the University wide processes that ensure College is compliant with all research security laws and regulations, which include the areas of, export controls, foreign influence vulnerabilities, international collaborations and Intellectual Property (IP). In a university setting these laws and regulations present a unique challenge because they require balancing national security concerns with traditional concepts of academic freedom. Also be responsible for developing a Foreign Influence Working Group, perform ongoing gap analysis on existing policies and processes, develop risk mitigation measures, develop monitoring tools, lead responses to regulatory violations, develop Technology Control Plans as needed, obtain export licenses as needed and oversee international shipments, conduct screenings for foreign national students and scholars, and develop a University wide training program in research security best practices and regulations. These responsibilities will require the Director to have excellent collaborative leadership, proven team building capabilities, exceptional communication and conflict management skills, and be very familiar with university culture as well as a depth of knowledge in the area of research security.
