General Counsel
The candidate will be responsible for all legal work arising from the activities of the college, District 508, and is the point of contact for the Board of Trustees, the Chancellor and other key District Executives, the office of the Mayor, and external governmental officials and entities for all legal matters. Provides legal counsel, advice and representation to the Board of Trustees and the Chancellor. Manages legal representation of the District by private counsel. Represents the District on legal affairs and litigation. Provides leadership and guidance to staff of attorneys. Directs litigation activities and transactional matters, overseeing attorneys engaged in legal areas of litigation, transactional and legislative matters. Directs staff of attorneys providing a variety of legal services including, contract review (e.g. construction, professional services, and facility use agreements), real estate, labor and employment matters, collective bargaining, personal injury defense, board protocols, and intellectual property matters. Provides administrative oversight to the Risk Management Division, working with the Director of Risk Management on matters of litigation to identify and analyze loss exposures and maintain appropriate financial reserves to ensure adequate funding of acknowledged liabilities. Oversees the management of the Office of the General Counsel, developing and implementing work policies and procedures.
