Part-time Staff Attorney
Duties: Identify and develop cases in which DNA testing may prove factual innocence and will present those case to the county conviction integrity unit. Will work closely with unit staff on the case investigation and testing. Will report directly to the innocence project director. Supervise intake, screening and case acceptance on county cases. Gather materials for case evaluation and development. Keep current in relevant law and update screening protocols as needed. Present cases for DNA testing to the county conviction integrity unit oversee the DNA testing process and evaluate testing results. Prepare grant reports and other administrative duties required by the grant. The clinic provides hands-on learning opportunities to law and undergraduate students and free legal representation to prisoners whose innocence may be proven through post-conviction DNA testing. Will work with the clinic director and clinic staff to identify and evaluate cases in which the prisoner’s innocence may be proven through DNA testing of material evidence and will seek testing in appropriate cases.
