Clinic Fellow in the Veterans Legal Support Center & Clinics
The Fellow will provides pro bono legal assistance to veterans. Responsible for: case intake, selection and representation, supervision of clinical students, and some clinic administration functions. Will work closely with the Clinic Fellow at the University Law School Veterans Project as part of the Urban-Rural Initiative. Will maintain an active docket of VA Benefit appeals and discharge upgrades. Students will be assigned to select cases to work with the Staff Attorney. Will coordinate with the SIU Law Clinic Fellow. . Will supervise assigned students in the collaborative and clinical manner of the Veterans Clinic. Supervision will include memo review, critique, feedback and student discussions as well as tracking case/client status and progress. Will work with Clinic colleagues in the Urban – Rural Initiative and the Illinois Armed Forces Legal Aid Network to assess cases and outcomes. Will travel to Southern Illinois on collaborative projects and programs with SIU Law School Veterans Project and the Illinois Armed Forces Legal Aid Network. Will have the opportunity to lecture and publish on projects related to the mission of the Veterans Clinic and the Initiative. May periodically participate in pro-bono attorney trainings and other events.
