Director of Student Legal Services: IX
Oversees the legal and advice afforded to eligible Rutgers University students in all areas of law deemed appropriate by the university in a manner consistent with any and all requirements of legal and professional responsibility, professional ethics, and any and all applicable state and federal laws. Ensures that Student Legal Services, its personnel and clients maintain all elements of attorney-client privilege, produce documents in a timely fashion, and take all appropriate steps to ensure that its student/clients receive any and all appropriate rights and privileges to which they are entitled under the law. Develops and maintains a referral system consistent with state law to which he/she will refer all cases which are outside the purview of the Student Legal Services, can not be handled by Student Legal Services due to case volume, and/or those cases which represent a conflict of interest. Supervises all support personnel in order to maintain an effective Student Legal Service including, but not limited to, staff attorney, per diem or contract attorneys, office manager, administrative assistants, secretarial support, student interns and student employees. Establishes and maintains an effective educational outreach program designed to educate students, faculty and staff about the availability of legal services as well as to educate the Rutgers University student community on areas of the law most relevant to students as well as prelaw advice.
