Job Overview

A law firm seeks a highly motivated mid-level associate attorney to join its Projects, Energy, Environment & Resources practice group in Portland, OR. This role offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of digital infrastructure and energy transition, engaging in power strategy design and navigating regulatory frameworks that shape future energy infrastructure.

Duties

• Negotiate power purchase agreements and custom energy service agreements for developers, utilities, and corporate buyers.
• Advise on electric market design issues within RTOs/ISOs, focusing on capacity market mechanisms and interconnection policies.
• Represent clients in proceedings before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and advise on compliance with market-based rate programs.
• Counsel clients on emerging energy policy, renewable energy integration, and carbon-free energy procurement strategies.

Requirements

• 3-6 years of experience in energy law, with a mix of regulatory and transactional experience preferred.
• Familiarity with the Federal Power Act, power market mechanics, and power transaction structures.
• Demonstrated ability to draft bespoke energy contracts.

Education

• JD from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Must be admitted to practice (or eligible to waive in) to the jurisdiction of office location.
