Job Overview

Duties

• Manage a diverse docket of insurance defense matters, including general liability, auto, professional liability, premises, and construction defect cases.



• Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and correspondence, and take or defend depositions, including those of experts.



• Attend hearings, mediations, and trials, serving as second chair minimum and first chair as appropriate.



• Communicate proactively with carrier clients regarding case strategy, status updates, and budget management.



• Ensure strict compliance with carrier litigation guidelines, billing protocols, and reporting requirements.



• Manage expert witnesses by securing client approval, monitoring budgets, and ensuring timely invoicing.

Requirements

• Hold a J.D. from an accredited law school and possess an active bar license in Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, and/or Utah.



• Demonstrate 2-9+ years of civil litigation experience, with a primary focus on insurance defense.



• Show proven experience working with carrier clients and adhering to carrier litigation guidelines.



• Exhibit strong written and oral advocacy skills with a track record of clean, compliant billing practices.



• Display proficiency with legal research databases and case management platforms.

Education

• J.D. from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active bar license in Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, and/or Utah.

Skills

• Experience with carrier billing platforms and AI-assisted timekeeping or drafting tools is desired.



• Existing relationships within the AZ/NM/CO/UT carrier community are preferred.



• Prior experience at or with an insurance carrier, in-house claims department, or carrier-panel defense work is preferred.



• Trial or arbitration experience, with a minimum of second chair capability, is desired.
