Job Description
Title: Literacy Specialist
Reports to: Principal
Position Summary:
The Literacy Specialist is a school-based instructional coach. The specialist supports district curriculum development initiatives, and provides school-based leadership in the areas of reading, writing, and effective differentiation. The specialist is an integral part of the Instructional Support Team and oversees and/or delivers reading intervention services to students.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Develop and carry out a school-based coaching plan focusing on selected district and school-based goals;
Track and understand the significance of various data and assessments related to literacy;
Participate in the running of a district-wide professional development program, in collaboration with other literacy specialists and the ELA coordinator;
Collaborate with and co-plan with other Literacy Specialist colleagues or Literacy Tutor, working in the intervention program;
Collaborate with and co-plan with teachers working on curriculum related to literacy;
Provide professional development to teachers;
Engage families in continuing education related to literacy development;
Assist with ongoing ELA curriculum-development work;
Other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred;
A valid Massachusetts Reading Specialist credential through the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education;
Experience with one or more of the duties and responsibilities listed above;
Experience with any of the following preferred: Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System, Lucy Calkins Units of Study, Fundations, Leveled Literacy Intervention, Wilson, and Orton-Gillingham. Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required
