The candidate will investigate reports for student conduct cases, including sexual misconduct, personal misconduct, and organizational misconduct. Serve as the primary investigator for student cases involving any allegation of sexual misconduct (i.e. sexual harassment, sexual violence, dating and domestic violence, and stalking). These responsibilities include providing prompt response and outreach to potential complainants in connection with incidents reported to the Office of Student Conduct (OSC) pursuant to the campus’ Title IX reporting structures and conduct investigations of such incidents in accordance with the university’s sexual misconduct policy and procedures. Manage case files, data base information, and documentation associated with the University’s Title IX compliance with a particular emphasis on investigation of alleged cases of sexual misconduct (including assault and sexual harassment, dating and domestic violence, and stalking involving undergraduate and graduate students at IUPUI). Conduct full investigation in connection with reports, identifying and collecting potential evidence, meeting and interviewing parties and witnesses, and ensuring routine communication with parties to keep well-informed. Prepare investigation reports, evaluating and assigning charges, keeping up-to-date meeting notes and data base entries related to conduct cases. Investigate cases of personal misconduct and organizational misconduct pursuant to the university’s procedures for such allegations. Assist the Director and Assistant Director with outreach and education on student life topics related to sexual misconduct, including Title IX, VAWA, sexual misconduct, harassment, domestic violence, and stalking in coordination with campus partners; assist with related projects as assigned. Report directly to the Associate Dean of Students and Director of Student Conduct. Act as a neutral party in an investigation, conducting a thorough investigation, and developing reports, timelines, evaluating and assigning charges, and compiling case files for hearings. Assign sanctions in cases where students accept responsibility for charges. Stay current on movements in the field of student conduct investigations by participating in listservs, conferences and training; relationship building with colleagues on campus; review of current literature and research; and participate in local, regional or national professional associations and organizations. Investigate, manage, and evaluate charges in cases of alleged misconduct, including but not limited to sexual misconduct, stalking, harassment, domestic violence, and other title IX related incidents by students utilizing processes articulated in the university’s sexual misconduct policy and accompanying procedures, and other related policies and procedures. Assign educational sanctions for students who accept responsibility for charges. Provide information gathered in the investigation in university sexual misconduct hearings. Utilize relevant theory, literature, research, and best practices to manage and investigate matters involving sexual misconduct, personal misconduct, and organizational misconduct. Relevant knowledge areas include, but are not limited to: applicable Civil Rights laws and regulations, student development, ethical development, social identity development, social justice, conflict resolution theory, motivational interviewing, and related theories of human motivation, change, and development. Review complaints, conduct intake meetings, coordinate interim measures, interview involved parties, and facilitate conflict resolution, either through informal or formal mechanisms. Consult with broad cross-section of institutional and community stakeholders regarding student conflict issues at large and specific student situations. Work with highly sensitive, protected information with discretion and good judgment to maintain student confidentiality, while attending to institutional risk-management concerns. Interact, as appropriate, with parents and attorneys hired on behalf of students regarding specific student conduct cases. Serve as an investigator for all conduct cases for OSC but specifically to ensure cases are completed within Title IX and VAWA related timelines. Foster student learning, development, and enhanced educational experiences through direct service interventions (counseling, advising, mediation, interactive programming, teaching, etc.). Provide appropriate referrals for students to other offices or agencies when assistance needed is beyond scope of responsibility. Educate and assist students in developing abilities to reflect on personal and ethical values and in making informed decisions about conduct. Comply with and educate others on regulations and laws related to the work of OSC, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Clery Act. Promote the highest standards of the profession in accordance with the principles, ethics, standards, and best practices of ASCA, ACPA, NASPA, and CAS. Conduct educational outreach efforts, including serving as a liaison and consultant for university constituents on behavior management concerns. Forward the mission and goals of the office and the Division of Student Affairs within an established set of organizational values. Lead and participate in university committee and taskforce work which promotes the mission of the Office of Student Conduct and Division of Student Affairs. Assist the Associate Dean of Students and Director of Student Conduct with management of the Office, including budget and compliance with federal and state regulations, as well as various other duties as assigned.
